Ted Kaufman - United States Senator for Delaware

Kaufman Statement on Energy Bill

August 4, 2010

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Ted Kaufman (D-DE) released a statement following the decision to postpone consideration of the Clean Energy Jobs and Oil Spill Accountability Act until the Senate returns from August recess:

“The Clean Energy Jobs and Oil Spill Accountability plan introduced last week clearly does not go far enough to ensure America’s path to a clean energy economy, but Republicans refuse to even consider a scaled down bill.
“Ultimately, if we want to move away from dirty fossil fuels, we must put a price on the carbon pollution that harms human health and alters our atmosphere. Only then will we unleash the market forces that will drive American ingenuity to develop clean energy technologies. Only then will we put America on the path to a clean energy economy that will enhance U.S. competitiveness, strengthen national security and create hundreds of thousands of new jobs for generations to come.
“I hope that when we return in September the Senate will pass comprehensive energy legislation.”
