Kaufman on House of Representative's Passage of Healthcare Reform

March 21, 2010

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Ted Kaufman (D-Del.) released the following statement after the House of Representatives voted to pass comprehensive healthcare reform:

“The healthcare reform legislation passed by the House of Representatives tonight is as historic as the votes that created Social Security and Medicare. No longer will insurance companies be able to deny coverage to Americans who have pre-existing medical conditions or cut off payments for the sick. This bill will now begin the effort to contain runaway costs and improve the delivery of healthcare services. And it will reduce the budget deficit as well. Tortuous as the process has been, this is a landmark achievement that I am confident will result in a better healthcare system for all Americans.
