Focus on Job Creation

This week, the Senate passed the first in a series of jobs bills. The bill will “provide a much-needed boost that will help businesses in Delaware hire more workers and get the economy back on its feet,” Ted said. There is still a long way to go, but the U.S. economy has made progress. Just last year, 741,000 U.S. jobs were lost in January. In January 2010, the number of job losses dropped to 20,000. On Feb. 18, Ted announced that $1.225 billion in Recovery Act dollars have been committed to Delaware. In the fourth quarter of 2009, the U.S. economy grew by nearly 6 percent.

Promoting Freedom of Press and Expression Overseas

Freedom of the press and Internet are under assault in places like China and Iran. Ted has continued to work to bring awareness to freedom of expression overseas. On Feb. 2, Ted’s resolution condemning China’s cyber attack against Google unanimously passed the Senate. On Feb. 11, Ted addressed the Senate, condemning the repression of the Iranian people. During the remainder of his term, he will continue to fight for Internet and press freedoms.
