Report Says Rate of Recovery Act Investments Ahead of Schedule

Earlier this week, the Government Accountability Office released a promising report demonstrating faster than expected Recovery Act investments across the country. As of August 31, Delaware has received more than $900 million in recovery funding, including $1.4 million for Delaware Head Start and Early Head Start programs (pictured above). In a News Journal op-ed last month, Ted highlighted the ways the Recovery Act has begun to restore the state’s economy and put Delawareans back to work.

"We Need to Pass Health Reform"

As the Senate Finance Committee considered its healthcare reform proposal this week, Ted joined ten freshman Democratic senators in back-to-back speeches on the Senate floor to address the urgent need for action -- and the high cost of inaction. "I think there are two major reasons why we need to enact health reform this year and they both require controlling healthcare costs," said Sen. Kaufman. "Failure to do so could bankrupt this country" as well as "drive more and more Americans into personal bankruptcy."

Seeking a Level Playing Field for Investors

Ted has made it a priority to restore credibility and investor confidence in the U.S. financial markets, urging the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to take action on a number of fronts. Ted’s latest call for a ground-up, comprehensive review of a broad-range of opaque market structure issues – including high-frequency trading and flash orders – drew significant national media attention and ultimately led to a commitment from the SEC to undertake a major review.
