Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, which is operated by Nemours, will receive $350,000 in federal funding for its new pediatric intensive-care unit.

The expansion of the unit, slated to begin this year, is part of a $230 million project that is expected to be complete by 2013. The pediatric intensive-care unit that AstraZeneca is helping finance will feature 32 beds and the latest technology. It also will have the ability to expand to 48 beds.

The new money was given with the help of U.S. Sens. Tom Carper and Ted Kaufman, both Democrats, and Rep. Mike Castle, R-Del.. In April, AstraZeneca gave the hospital $1 million for help with the unit.
